The SEND team also have specific information regarding learners with SEND:

SEND Information, Advice and Support Service

The learners at Hillcrest will all have a statement of special educational needs or an education and health care plan (EHCP). All learners will transition onto the new EHCP during their placement at Hillcrest.

Learners that require a specialist provision in Northumberland are submitted through to the SEND team. The team will then allocate an SEN officer who will submit this to all the provisions in Northumberland. Receiving schools will then check capacity and consider if they can meet the learners needs. Parents/carers can then consider which provision suits their child best.

Hillcrest is a secondary provision and can accept learners from Year 7 through to Year 12. We are a non specific specialist provision so any learners needs will be considered.

Hillcrest will carefully consider:

  • The age of the learner and suitability of peers
  • The needs and interests of the learner
  • The resources required for successful placement
  • Parental choice
Northumberland County Council Admissions Statement

To attend a special school a child or young person would need to have an EHC Plan or a Statement of SEN. The school would need to be appropriate for their age, ability, aptitude and special educational needs. The placement would also need to be compatible with the efficient education of the other children with whom the child or young person would be educated and with the efficient use of resources.

For further details, contact the SEND Information, Advice and Support Service on 01670 623555.  The service can provide leaflets on ‘Visiting a School’, and ‘Starting a New School’.  If your child has a EHC Plan or Statement of SEN and you think that they would benefit from being at a different school, you should ask their current school to hold a review of their Plan or Statement."

Hillcrest is a 66 place school with a 16-19 provision. Generally schools can not go over capacity unless additional places are agreed by the LA and Head collaboratively.
